Football Lines

When watching college football this year, one of the things I have been amazed with is how often football lines are made “too good to be true”. The old cliché holds true when betting on football lines and making football picks. If something looks like it is a sure fire winner, chances are that it’s going to go the other way. The question then becomes, how do you tell the tricky football lines from the others so you can take advantage of the sportsbooks trying to trick you?

The first thing to keep in mind when looking at football lines is the public betting trend. You might have to do a little bit of digging around in order to uncover where the public money is going, but this knowledge is going to be invaluable. You know as a bettor that the sportsbooks don’t like to lose money. They like to be on the right side of things, so they aren’t going to throw out an easy line where 80% of the public is able to take home money. If you see football lines where the public is betting heavily on one team, yet the line has not moved, you can bet that Vegas knows something we don’t.

This basic bit of knowledge about football lines can do more for you than almost any amount of research. You have to absolutely know that Vegas is better than you at this. They have a better understanding of the teams and matchups, and they also know how you are going to bet. They go to war with a lot of information when they put together football lines. Though you can’t just expect to win every time when you bet against the public in these situations, if you are smart enough to spot a fishy line, then you can come out on top more times than not. This is a great way to become one of those sharp bettors that is not fooled by lines and the tricks of the sportsbook.
