In what was three team race coming down the decision day, wide receiver and receptions leader for the past three seasons TJ Houshmandzadeh has decided to sign with the Seattle Seahawks.
Smart move? Definitely not if he was looking to win any time soon.
The Seahawks may have been one of the most dominant teams in the NFC over the past decade, but they have definitely started their decline into mediocrity.
First it was letting go of superstar running back Shaun Alexander for lack of production, then it was seeing the rapid decline of quarterback Matt Hasselback. The Seahawks just aren't the same team anymore. Signing Houshmandzadeh was definitely a step in the right direction, but they will be going through a rebuilding process for at least the next two to three years or so.
Houshmandzadeh's other two options were staying with the lowly once promising Cincinnati Bengals or joining Adrian Peterson with the Minnesota Vikings. Looking at this from my perspective, signing with the Vikings was a no brainer. The Bengals are a mess and the Seahawks might not be good again for the next five seasons while the Vikings have arguably the best running back in the game and have recently added quarterback Sage Rosenfels from the Houston Texans. Everything seems to point in the winning direction for Minnesota while the other two teams, unless a miracle happens, will be down in the dumps for quite a while.
TJ did play his college ball in Seattle, so he does have ties there which was most likely his deciding factor for signing with the Seahawks.
One thing is for certain though, if Hasselback can get back to form, Housmandzadeh could possibly turn into one of the top three or four receivers in the NFL.
